BSW Timber is the perfect fit for Dumfriesshire barn transformation
A barn in Kirtlebridge, Dumfriesshire has been transformed from a derelict shell to a stunning four bedroom home using BSW Timber.
Mike Faulkner purchased the dilapidated barn in 2008 and spent 18 months meticulously renovating it with his father, Bob Faulkner.
The end vision was to create a spacious and modern family home using natural fibres to create an authentic, country ambience.
BSW Timber's Easi-Edge construction timber was selected for the stud walls and floor joists to ensure maximum strength. Douglas fir was used for the exposed beams and BSW's Timeless Timber for outdoor decking. Fence boards were also erected in the garden and BSW's sustainable and durable British-grown larch was used for the cladding.
Mike Faulkner, said: "This project shows the level of transformation which can be achieved with hard work, dedication and quality materials. I chose BSW Timber products to help me realise this dream because our aim was to create a high spec, quality living space that was true to its surroundings.
"The use of timber was therefore paramount in recreating the natural barn feel. The Scottish larch cladding was easy to fit and looks fantastic but my favourite feature is the Douglas fir beams. They add a rustic charm to the building and look better than I could have imagined."
Eve Johnson, group marketing manager, BSW Timber, said: "Mike's barn transformation is a perfect example of the transformative potential of wood products. The end result is testament to the hard work of Mike and his father over an 18 month period, and perfectly illustrates how timber can be used, almost entirely, in renovation projects. It looks great and is one of the most cost effective and environmentally sustainable options available to the construction industry.”
